Description:
Plain brown to gray in coloration, with a cream to yellow underside, this small snake has a snout that tapers to a point. Its scales are keeled and the anal plate is divided. Young may have a light white band behind the head, which is lost as the snake reaches maturity.
Size:
Adults 7 - 10 inches (18 - 25 cm)
Prey:
Earthworms, slugs, and snails.
Reproduction:
Mates in March and April, and young are born in June to September. Typical litter is from 2 - 12 babies, averaging 3 - 4 inches (8 - 10 cm) long.
Habitat:
Woodlands and rocky, wooded hillsides.
Other information:
This very secretive snake is commonly found under the cover of logs, rocks, and other debris.
