Panama 2008

I was extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to the country of Panama two years in a row.  I was working on a conservation project involving amphibians and invertebrates, but rather than go into the details of that, I'm simply going to show a bunch of photos and tell a few stories.  The photos will be mixed and will include both trips, so forgive me for jumping back and forth between trips.  (like you could tell the difference between the two trips, right?!)

I'm going to start off with some scenery shots, just to give you an idea of how beautiful it is in parts of Panama.  I was in the central highlands, which was about a 1.5 hour drive from Panama City, the capital city.  This location was great because there were no mosquitoes there.  Imagine that!  I was in the town of El Valle and it's a place lots of city folks go on the weekends to get away from the heat and busy life in the city.

This is a view from the road near an amphibian study site.  It was a treacherous road to get there, and unfortunately it's being cleared for houses at an alarming rate.

Another view into the valley.

I got to see this every morning at the amphibian center.  It was wonderful having jungle all around me.

The mist that fell over the mountains each day was breathtaking.  I couldn't stop taking photos of it.

Here's part of the road that leads to the study site.  This was one of the good sections!

Here I am, standing at the foot of one of the most beautiful places on earth.  The photo is a little cock-eyed because I had placed my camera on the ground and used the timer feature.  I had to get it set, run around the pool, get in position, and pose.  It took a few tries to get this shot and it's not that great.

On to the AMPHIBIAN page...
